Welcome Paintings by Moira Doggett. I was born in Rhondda, South Wales, now living in Ely, Cambridgeshire, England. I have been a painter for forty years. A trained nurse, midwife and nurse administrator, I gave up my career in nursing to devote more time to painting. Evening classes in painting at Rhondda Technical Institute for 2 years. Evening classes in portraiture and life drawing at All Saints College of Art, Manchester for 3 years. Abstract lessons with Kristen Berger, London. In 1974 the Arts Council of Wales purchased a large painting of "The Last Supper" ( King of Kings and Lord of Lords). The painting is now at the University of Wales, Bangor. I have had two exhibitions with good reviews, one private and one at the Ripley Art Centre, Bromley, Kent. I have exhibited at the Royal Institute Galleries London and the Welsh Arts Council Gallery Cardiff. I was a Methodist but in 1976 became converted to the Roman Catholic Church. I lead a contemplative prayer life and my painting is very much prayer centred. I painted icons for four years, being taught the traditional method by a hermit nun but I found the strict discipline of Iconography too restrictive and I wanted to express myself more freely. For many years I have explored the imaginative in figurative art. Apart from portraits from life all my work is from the imagination; I do not use models. I am searching for beauty. I am looking for a reputable gallery dealer to promote my work. With over 300 paintings in a very small studio I am now only able to paint on small canvases. Gallery 1 consists of interior portraits (portraits from the imagination) and portraits from life that I have painted these last few years. Gallery 2 consists of my earlier and larger paintings and icons. Ripe Cherries, Christ in Glory and a Question of Liberation have been sold. Autobiography and Devon Landscape are not for sale. Girl Praying is reserved. Also 'We would not be ashamed of tears....' is reserved. Click on the links below to enter the galleries.
